FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. How much is a monthly sponsorship?

Answer: Sponsorship is only $27.00/month.

 

  1. How long is my commitment to sponsor a child?

Answer: Your commitment can be as long or as short as you need.  A minimum of one-year is requested, and you can continue sponsoring for as long as you wish.  If you cannot commit to a minimum of one year, please consider a one-time donation. Those are gratefully accepted!

 

  1. How much do you deduct for administration fees?

Answer:  Only 11% of each donation is held back for administration fees. 

 

  1. Are donations tax deductible?

Answer: YES!  CHER Canada is a registered Canadian charity and all donations will receive a tax-receipt for the calendar year in which it was received.

 

  1. Can I write to my child?

Answer: Most definitely!  If you are interested in a more personal relationship with your child, you are encouraged to send correspondence.  If not, you can simply enjoy the yearly correspondence that you will receive.

 

  1. How do I cancel?

Answer: You can cancel at any time by phone, e-mail, or letter.   

  

  1. How do I make my monthly donations?

Answer: Regular monthly payments should be made through our automatic bank or credit card system.  Alternatively, you can pay by cheque (monthly, quarterly, yearly, or post-dated).

  1. Can I meet my child?

Answer: Over the years, we have had a handful of sponsors who have met their child.  CHER Canada can provide you with the correct contacts to get in touch with and arrangements to visit your child would be handled personally and NOT directly through CHER.

 

  1. What if I get behind in my donations?

Answer: If you get a little behind on your donations, you can catch up at a pace that works for you. 

If you get significantly behind, but still want to continue with your sponsorship, please get in touch with us directly an we can utilize our Greatest Needs Fund to help fill in the shortfall.  

If you get significantly behind and cannot continue, our Greatest Needs Fund is there to support the child while we look for a new sponsor.

 

  1. What happens if my child drops out of the program?

Answer: If your sponsored child is no longer in need of sponsorship care, you will be informed by mail and offered a new child for sponsorship.  If you do not wish to continue, you can simply let us know.

 

11. Is CHER Canada connected to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada (SDACC)?

Answer: Yes. CHER Canada is an official independent supporting ministry of the SDACC. Each year we provide the SDACC with documents regarding our activities, board resolutions and financial statements so that they can oversee and ensure that we are follwoing principles that follow the values and prinicples of the SDACC.

 

12. If CHER is a supporting ministry of the SDACC, can we donate our tithe directly to CHER?

Answer: No.  CHER Canada does not accept tithe. As a supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada, CHER Canada has a clear policy to not knowingly accept tithe. Tithe should be directed to the local church or conference.
